Make Up

BRUSH CLASS

photos: sephora post designed by amy nadine
Welcome to first period at make-up school!  Today’s subject is brushes for foundation and powder.
With all types of foundations, remember to start at the center of your face (where you typically need the most coverage) and work the product outwards to the perimeter.  Also, the best companion tool for brushes is your fingers so don’t forget to blend with them as you use your brushes.  And please don’t forget your neck!
Foundation (Liquid): You’ll want a synthetic, densely-packed flat but wide brush to effortlessly cover more space when you’re in a hurry in the mornings.  Look for ones with nylon or Taklon bristles for the smoothest application.
Foundation (Cream): If you use a cream foundation, you’ll want a 100% natural bristle brush so it deposits less product as you swirl it all over, giving you a flawless airbrushed effect.  Natural bristles are critical for building coverage without streaking.
Foundation (Mineral Powder): This can be a synthetic or natural bristle powder brush, but look for one with a plump shape designed for the swirling motion we do when applying minerals.
Concealer (Undereye): I love a flat synthetic concealer brush for covering dark circles because you can really “lay down” the product by using the side of the brush.  The other component to look for is a tapered edge because this helps you avoid clumping during application.  The synthetic bristles will pick up less product so your coverage will last longer (the thicker you apply it, the more likely it will crease and cake).
Concealer (Blemishes): Look for a pointed and tapered concealer brush made ofsynthetic bristles so you can apply it precisely on top of any kind of blemish (pimple, scar, broken capillary, etc.) without touching the surrounding skin. Practice mini-swirling motions gently on top of the blemish then lightly blend the perimeters with your ring finger.  For a quick refresher on covering a glaring pimple.
Powder (All-over): Look for a big, fluffy natural bristle powder brush for situations when you’re going to be on camera (college TV channel, YouTube, your friend’s music video) or photographed under brutal lights (yearbook photos, weddings, sorority formals).  This afternoon I will use one of these on Lauren before she walks out on the Chelsea Lately Show because the lighting on talk shows is criminal and she will not have a shiny face under my watch!
Powder (T-Zone): Use an eyeshadow blending brush made with natural hair bristles as a powder brush just for the areas that tend to shine: between your brows, around and on the tip of your nose, your upper lip and your chin.  This allows the rest of your face to glow and breathe.

All About Hair! =)

Tip 6: How to make your hair grow faster..

~Scalp Massage
(Regular scalp massages are highly beneficial in growing hair faster naturally.)

~Flip your hair upside down
(Flip your head over for about 2-4 minutes daily. This may sound weird but it tends to stimulate hair follicles by reversing the flow of blood.)

~Moisture is the key to healthier hair

(When using conditioners to avoid tangles and provide moisture, apply the product only on the lower half of your hair, particularly focusing on the dry ends and carefully avoiding the scalp.)

~Do not try to brush wet hair when striving for faster hair growth to get long hair. It is better to comb semi-moist hair with the help of a wide teethed comb.

~Hair packs
(Prepare a homemade hair mask to accelerate hair growth by mixing a tablespoon of honey in one egg yolk. Apply this hair pack on the scalp and leave it for about half an hour. Finally, rinse your hair with mildly lukewarm water to remove the sticky mixture. Follow this procedure at least once every week.)

~Hair trimming to remove split ends
(Trimming the hair from time to time is perhaps the most widely prevalent yet contradictory tip for making hair grow faster and longer. In days gone by, people believed frequent hair trimming to be the key to faster hair growth. But now, extensive research has proved that this concept is merely a myth.
Therefore, it is advised that you get your hair trimmed on a regular basis. In fact, most of the hair experts recommend that hair should be trimmed every 6-8 weeks.)

~Diet matters

(Nutritious diet consisting of foods rich in B vitamins, proteins, iron etc is a highly recommended.
Healthy foods like spinach, beans, broccoli, green bell peppers, lettuce, milk, fish, strawberries, avocados, tomatoes, bananas, apricots, yogurt, soy products, nuts, whole grains etc.)

~Avoiding stress and getting sufficient sleep can make your hair grow faster and longer.

~Products for hair care
(Choose mild shampoos and conditioners depending on your hair type. For instance, opt for hair care products designed for deep cleansing in case you have oily hair.)

• Stay away from harsh chemicals and heating tools used for hair styling
(Chemical and heat treatments like curling irons on hair gradually make them fragile prone to breakage. Even hair dryers should not be used too frequently as they tend to make hair dry.
In fact, it is better to use a leave-in conditioner before blow drying your hair. Moreover, use the dryer on the ends and middle portion, carefully avoiding hair on the scalp to minimize damage.)

Exercise

100 Running Songs

It’s the new year and everyone is making their new year’s resolution for 2012. And obviously the top new year’s resolutions are always to exercise more and lose weight. Well, I’ve compiled a list of 100 songs to run to (Jeremy helped me too). These songs have great beats to help make your workouts a little more enjoyable.
It’s perfect if you make a playlist on your iPod titled “Running Songs” so you can just leave it on shuffle as you run. I’ve attached links to the songs that direct you to Youtube.
We tried to get a variety of songs to suit different people. Old and new songs, hip-hop and alternative, for men and for women, etc. I encourage you to listen to a song or two that you’ve never heard of. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find your new favorite song to run to (you can never have too many.) Happy running!
